How long after on-time payments begin (and remain uninterrupted) does the negative effect on credit last??? I experienced a 100 point drop and need to figure out the best, most efficient strategy to move that score up. Other that the obvious pay on time...
for example; consolidating the loans would drive down the monthly debt (smaller monthly payments) while increasing total debt (due to increased interest paid over a longer period of time). Would this the the score?

Any negative item will remain on your credit report for the next 7 years. However, with time the negative affect of that item on your credit report will decrease. In order to increase your scores by 100 points, you should give yourself a time period of 6-8 months. However, it may increase 100 points before that time as well.
