Can creditors put a lien on personal property?
We decided to put our rebuilt home up for sale and when our realtor got here we found out that we had a lien for a medical bill. We were never notified of this. What can we do?
Hi Mary!
Welcome to forums!
Unless you pay off the medical lien and get a lien release certificate, you won't be able to sell off the property. You should contact your creditor and pay off the lien asap.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

In truth, at the time of the sale - the closing - your lien will be paid out of the proceeds of the sale of the home. You need not worry about paying it now; the title search will show the lien, you'll have it paid at closing and the release will be done concurrently.

Hi cassie!
Welcome to forums!
As far as I know, the creditor can place a single lien for a particular debt against your property.

Perhaps Alaska law is equivalent to Georgia law...Sussane?
I have recently gone to court to talk to an attorney for a debt. It is a debt from a old landlord that was sent to a creditor. The debt was from 7 years ago. Its for 1,439.41. When i spoke with the lawyer he informed me that he intended on putting a lein on my mobile home since he could not garnish my wages since I am self employed. I work from my home. I went to a bancruptcy attorney to talk about filing they informed me that I would have nothing to worry about because there is a value of around 3,000 in personal property that they can not touch. I have just recieved a varified motion for procedings supplemental and order. I am worried that they can take my home or car. It has been over 7 yrs. Can they take my home or car? Is the statue of limitations over?

can a creditor get a judgement or a lien against my real estate In WA State without actually taking me to court? I have never receieved any supenaes or other notice of legal actions. If they can do this, how do I find out of this has happened?
Hi Bonnie!
Welcome to forums!
The lender will have to take you to the court in order to get a judgment against you. You should contact a real estate attorney and he will help you in dealing with the situation.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Agreed...judgments are only handed out by courts of law.
Hello, first of all thank you for your help. My question is my brother was a consigner on my house loan so that I could get the loan, however last month he signed a quit claim on the deed. He recently had to go overseas and he can't come back for a few years and therefore he can't pay his credit debt. I was wondering can the creditor put a lien on my house even though I have a quit claim from him.
I filed bankurptsy discharge a year ago. I kept his truck he uses for work both our names on it. Now he had it repo, can they still come back on me for anything. I have a mortage on my home for21 more years.
His name is not on the house as he was previously married when I bought the house. can they sherrif sale anything. Pennsylvania
