Removing Credit Inquiries from your report question

Posted on: 05th Sep, 2007 09:30 am
I found an ad on craigslist again. Can a company remove inquiries from a credit report or is this some type of scam?
Hi Wildstorm,

If you find any inquiries on your report that you did not authorize then you can get them removed yourself. You need not pay anyone for it.

Start with locating inquiries which a potential creditor will get to see called as hard inquiries. You would be able to recognize them as places where you had applied for credit, but you may also find some which you are not familiar with.

Inquiries done by creditors where you had applied for credit cannot be removed. If any companies tells you that they can help you remove those from your report then it is a scam.

Find address of those unfamiliar creditors which are listed on your report. And then make a letter asking them to remove the inquiry. Send them the letter by certified mail. Check what they reply.

Some of the creditors will send documentation that the inquiry appearing on your report was actually authorized by you while few others would agree to remove it after receiving your letter. If any creditor does not reply & clarify their point after receiving your dispute letter then you will have rights to sue them.

"Can a company remove inquiries from a credit report "

Valid inquiries would remain on your report for another 2 years. They cannot be removed before that.

If you can contact creditors yourself and send them letters for removing the unauthorized inquiries then it would be much better than contacting any company to do it for you.

You could save on fees which you would have to pay them.

And if any company says that valid inquiries can also be removed then avoid that company completely.

Hi Wildstorm,

If you find any unauthorized credit inquiry made by some creditors in your credit report, you can send them letters through certified or registered mail. Ask them to remove those inquiries from your credit report. They will surely remove them.

But if any company has said that they will remove inquiries from your credit report even when you have not asked them to do so, they must be a scam and you should stay away from them.

I figured these are scams. If we can do it ourselves then why are there people doing this as a service ya know and charging an enormous amount of money to do it?

Hi Wildstorm,

I guess it is their business only.

Even I feel that self help is the best help. If a person wants to remove any inquiries from his credit report, it is better if he himself contact those creditors and ask them to remove such inquiries from his credit report.

I agree with you all on this one. However it can be a difficult task to find all the places to go and who to call. I don't think it is worth $1000's though. Couple hundred bucks tops.

And as previously stated above...
AVOID ANYONE WHO SAYS THEY CAN DELETE VALID ITEMS. IF YOU MADE THE DEBT IT WILL STAY.

actually you can remove valid items from your credit report.

of course it's illegal to do so.

it's very simple to remove the inquiries with equifax...with transunion or experian you will need to send a letter.

they way they verify the inquiry is this way.

you apply for AMEX credit card on 10/1/2007
they see an account open from AMEX on 11/1/2007

you cant dispute the inquiry as they will see the open account.

If the account isnt open...they will remove the inquiry.

When I bought my first car...they ran my credit like 15times...in a period of 3months. Of course I only ended up financing with 1 lender.
7-8 months passed...and a lot of the inquiries will still there. The 14 day rule applied....and I only saw about 5-6 inquiries. I called up the dealership and they denied pulling my credit that many times...and then later stated it was a 'mistake'.

I learn to dispute the inquiries online with Equifax...and sent the letters to Transunion/Experian. 20-25days later I received a new credit report....and it showed the inquiries with 'DELETED' next to it. They never showed up again.

I worked in the car business for over 20 years! What the car dealership did was send your request for financing to every lender they had. These lenders each pulled a credit inquiry. Thats how a lot of dealerships do it and it isnt right but what can you do. Hurray for banker0679 for getting things removed form your bureau. One thing that you are wrong on is the legallity of getting things removed. It is perfectly legal and done everyday.

Inquiries account for 10% of your credit score, so it would make sense to have them removed.

Credit Repair companies ARE beneficial! What's great about a credit repair specialist is they can actually go through your entire credit report and help you get a better understanding of what else could be bringing your scores down. I'm not sure of your score but if inquiries account for 10% of your credit score chances are something else is weighing your scores down!

funny how they say removing legitimate items isn't illegal....hmmm maybe this is why credit repair companies are always being shut down by the state attorney's office.

banker, didn't you see meliss' post above yours? can't you see that using such an agency is a wonderful idea? how can you say that? are you blind? are you anti-credit repair companies? that is, you discriminate against those companies on a regular basis?

oh my.

Its a little tougher to have a company do this. Or you can do this yourself.

As for Equifax. You can just call them up on the phone and tell them you do not know said company. Give them the date and Name of each one and they will be removed within 2 days.

Exparian. The only way I have founfd that works is by putting a Fraud Alert on experian, After that is on, call them and go down the list to have them removed. They will investigate them (30 Days) most if all will be deleted. P.s. Do not use this method unless you know what your doing, You could cause more harm then good

These are the only ways I have found that work
