SJM Marketing - Is it good to deal with?

SJM Marketing is a payday loan company having associates like Ellis Crosby and Platinum B Services to look after the collections. The company has a bad reputation in the market and as such people have been complaining about its activities which they feel are often illegal.

What are debtors saying about SJM Marketing?

  • At times the company may not provide contact information; as such the debtor fails to contact it for loan repayment. But all of a sudden the company may call up and threaten the debtor to make the payment immediately or else he would be sent to jail.
  • SJM takes out money from debtors' accounts at regular intervals even though the latter doesn't owe as much cash as is withdrawn by the company. And even after repeated requests to stop, they continue to withdraw from the account. At times, they even threaten to take legal action against the debtor.
  • The company deals with collection agencies which often take out money from debtors' checking accounts without prior notice.
  • The company has often accused its debtors of writing a bad check even if they haven't written any check as such.
  • The company provides unauthorized loan funds thereby depositing the loan amount into the debtor's bank account even though the latter hasn't asked for it.
  • At times, debtors make repeated calls but there's no one to respond on behalf of the company. It's hard to locate SJM and get any in touch with its officials.

What to do if you're in trouble with SJM Marketing?

If you haven't taken a loan from SJM and yet receive repeated calls from the company, then send them a debt validation letter thereby asking them to validate the debt. If they fail to validate the debt, then it's obvious that they have tried to scare you by talking about legal action against you. This is a violation of the FDCPA and as such you can file a complaint with the FTC or the State Attorney General for any legal action to be taken against SJM Marketing.

However, if you have really taken out the loan, then the best thing to do is to pay off the loan asap. But if they threaten you for not paying extra charges, then it's better to take legal action and avoid being harassed by SJM or other collection agencies.

I have this problem some company named SJM Marketing which I recieved a loan from has no information that is credible for me to repay them back. The number they gave me doesn't work and I've been trying to pay them back for almost 3 months two weeks ago a guys calls and tells me about how much I owe I inform him that I haven't been able to get in contact with anyone and if I don't handle the situation in the manner they wish I'm going to jail or court whatever accents is very hard to distinguish. Anyways I've been trying to get the number for these people and the bank doesn't have one. And neither does the internet searches, in so many words it seems as if the company doesn't exist. No they are telling me i owe this amount of more than 800 dollars. I've never heard of this before but they are continually taking 90 out every other week. Now what should I do I want to get this company off my back but how do I know that this company is giving my money to the correct people.
This company has deposited money into a checking account that I manage. We are a non profit organization and do no banking electronicly. they have also made three withdrawls from my account. Who are these people and how can they be so screwed up? I went to the bank and they are awhere of the problem. pretty scary! could they have cleared out the account ? I think Yes!

You should immediately contact them to know what they are trying to do. Also let them know if they don't stop you will be complaining to legal authorities (FTC, Department of Financial Institutions) about it.

If you need their contact information:

ya quite probably they could have cleared out your account. You need to be careful. Try to check your account quite often so that if anything unpleasant happens, you will come to know of it.

hello,

I took out a loan from sjm marketing and that was over a year ago. The ;loan was for 300 dollars and they have been takeing 90 out of my account every 1st and 15th. This has been going on way to long and I can't get intouch with anyone over this matter. I am affraid to stop payment beause of what they tell me about how I will go to jail and etc..
I don't know what to do. No one will answer my calls. I stay up for hours trying to get someone on the phone but it never happens. We are stationed in Japan for now and the time difference is a big thing to me. We are 14 hours ahead of the states and its hard for me to stay up and then go to work. I have called everyday for the past 5 months and still nothing. If anyone has anything, I mean advice, please let me know. this is costing me a ton of money just to get this matter cleared up. PLEASE let me know. or email me at "gumswife@hotmail.com" .

Hello Twyla,

I understand your miserable situation.

Is the loan term already over? If they are pulling out money even after that, it is illegal and you should take steps against them.

You may file your complaint with BBB and FTC and I think you should contact an attorney immediately.

I have been having a major problem with this company as well. They keep taking money out of my account, causing me hundreds of dollars. I am about to file a lawsuit. I can't seen to get any real info on the company.

Stallaing,

It's good that you have though of filing a lawsuit against this company but the problem is, several people have filed complaints and lawsuits and I don't know how the company get away inspite of such complaints being filed. Anyway, I feel the best way to know whether a company is good or bad us to ask people who have had experiences with them.

In this community, I have found a lot of people sharing their experiences with SJM Marketing. You can just know about them from http://www.mortgagefit.com/discuss/sjm-marketing.html .

I just recieved an unauthorized payday loan from "SJM Marketing". They reactivated a loan from over a year ago with out my consent. When I called my bank, they said that there was no phone number on file for them. Thankfully I came across this site and was able to contact them directly. I spoke with someone named "Dustin". Supposedly, they were supposed to reactivate a loan in the system that was right below my name. To make a long story short, they stated that they are going reverse the loan by the next business day. I'll keep you updated on this one.

Hi Guest,

It's good that this community could help you in a way. And, hopefully the unauthorized loan will be canceled. Surely do keep us posted.

Thanks,

Jerry

You definately need to file a complaint with the federal trade commission. They should look into this for you. Their practices cannot be tolerated and people need to turn them in to stop this from happening to other people as well.

Hi Mary and Emi,

Welcome to forums.

Mary, if you're dealing with payday loans, then paying $600 on $200 is not surprising because these loans come along with late fes and charges and god knows how the creditors manipulate and increase the charges! It's not easy to deal with these types of loans.

Emi, in your situation, I shall suggest that you call the representative for the last time and ask what's the total payment you need to make to get out o this loan. Just pay it off and stay out of this company. I've heard so many complaints till now and if you don't get away soon, who knows you might end paying thousands for just $200.

Thanks

SJM and CMG Group are the same company.. they call and state they are calling from National Adjusters.. they have a local number as well 620-664-5496 the supervisors name is Dustin Collins xt365...there is also a rude lady by the name of Theresa Bowers same number xt266. It is time to shut these JERKS down.. they call my job constantly hanging up and not wanting to give information on what they are calling about. I am reporting them to the FTC and the AG for scams and harrassment.
