i just went into a cell phone store today to look at phones and i was pressured into signing a contract by the sales reps. i had told them no quite a few times but somhow i still got hustled into it. it has only been 5 hours after i signed the contract and i realized i dont need the phone. please notify me of the law that is in affect and what the stipulations would be to back out...thanks
Hi mortimer,
As far as I know, the 72 hour clause is applicable in case of real estate sale contracts. I don't think you will get the facility of this clause in case of cell phone purchase. In my opinion, no one can pressurize you to buy something. You can speak to the sales representative and cancel the deal immediately.
Thanks

I'm with Jameshogg- probably not. I suppose there can be a 72-clause for any type of contract as long as the clause is in there. Typically you are looking at real estate or large transactions only
I called a tax relief company to inquire about assistance with the IRS. I was quoted an amount that I voiced to the company rep i couldn't afford. I explained I was in concerned of having my payroll check levied at 75%, the rep quoted an amount at 4900 I told him I could not afford that amount. The rep said he could set it up so I would pay 50% now and the remainder in 30 days. Again I said no. I ask could I spread it out more, the rep said he would have to add 5% it would amount to 3 payments at 1800 beginning 10/16/09.
I again said no I couldn't afford that, the rep kept reminding me the IRS will take 75% of my check if I didn't act immediately. Out of fear I agreeded, the Rep faxed me documents to UPS for power of attorney and a draft to my checking account to withdraw 1800 dollars. The Rep told me to sign my wifes name to both documents so that he could fax the information to the IRS before 7am that evening. The rep had me call him so he could make sure I fax the info back correctly and immediately, it was a little after 6:15 pm. I did as the rep requested. This was on10/8/09.
The next day 10/09/09 I called the Tax relief office at 2:15 pm and cancelled the transaction. The rep I spoke with was not in , but the gentlemen who took his call told me the transaction would be terminated and he would notify the Rep.
On 10/16/09 1800. was taken from my account by American Tax Relief, I called them an was told I would not get my money back.
Do I have any recourse, I mentioned the 72 hour clause.

does this just pertain to mortages or is there such a thing of a 72 hr clause to any item over a certain dollar amount
Hi ken,
As far as I know, the 72 hour clause is applicable only in case of a real estate purchase. It's a clause to protect the seller from losing valuable marketing time in the real estate negotiation period.
Thanks
