Can credit card company place a lien on social security check? I am on disability and social security is the only income I live on. Pls advise!
Hi J.Moore,
Welcome to the forum.
I do not think that a credit card company can place a lien on your social security check. If you are delinquent on Federal tax then only the Government may garnish it.
Best of luck,
Larry

No they can not put a lein on social security.
No they can't but be sure that if you have your check direct deposited you don't deposit any other funds besides ss benefits into that account just in case they would pull money from it.
Hi J.Moore,
No credit card companies cannot place a lien or garnish income from Social Security. Social Security benefits are exempted from execution, attachments, garnishment, bankruptcy or insolvency laws or any legal procedure.

Jessica.

But you must inform your bank that it is social security that is going into your account, they may not be aware. The bank can stop the garnishment, only if they know it a head of time. goodluck.
the credit card company can't garnish social security at all

If you owe money for credit cards and cannot afford to pay it back because you are not working and are living on ss, if you were able to save a little in your savings account little by little, can you attach your monies in that account if it is joint ownership. Also if you own your car outright (1999) can they put a lien on that as well? Thank you
Hi MARYLOU.
Welcome to the forum.
You should try to pay the credit card debts as the interest rates of credit card debts are very high. If you don't pay it off then they can place lien on your properties and even on your car. But they cannot garnish your social security account.
Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.
Best of luck,
Larry

I have never heard of them putting a lein on a car either. However, they will garnish a savings account unless it is social security benefit You will need to let the bank know if it is a social security benefit so that they can stop it from being garnished.
